It is our goal at Alliance for Independence to go above and beyond in services to our residents. Several years ago there was a great demand for residential group homes in this area. However, Alliance for Independence did not want just another group home. The staff wanted a group home that they would be proud to call home where choices are made by the residents.

Alliance for Independence provides residential living services for both male and female residents. There are two homes currently in Lakeland, Florida. The Carlton home houses six male residents and the Denton home houses six female residents with round the clock trainers to assist in their daily routines and positive residential choices.

Both homes offer a wide variety of opportunities to enhance their ability to become successfully independent through training in daily living and self governing skills such as laundry, personal hygiene, housekeeping, shopping, menu planning, meal preparation and banking skills. Each home also focuses on Residential Habilitation which is an individualized skills training program developed to support residents in acquiring the required skills needed to live in the community as independently as possible.

Each resident is encouraged to make their own choices and gain independence by using community resources and natural supports. In addition to training, a choice of weekly activities is provided. The activities may include, but are not limited to bowling, movies, going to local attractions and malls, picnics in the park and museum visits.

Through monthly governance meetings, the residents decide on how the home is run by choosing and planning future outings, vacations, upcoming menu ideas and may voice any concerns or needs of the household as a group. Everyone is encouraged to advocate for themselves in all aspects of their daily living.
